Biking is becoming an essential lifestyle nowadays especially this time of Covid era. My siblings got hooked in this activity that they include mountain biking in their weekend routine. Bike tours and trail rides by cycling clubs usually populates my Facebook feeds come weekend.

The sea-to-summit landscape in La Union is very enticing. Bike trails are seen sprouting everywhere in this region which is comparable to the likes of Danny MacAskill, the Scottish biker that usually performs back breaking stunts while riding his bike. I am amused watching his YouTube videos.

San Gabriel, La Union is a great biking destination for starters which is a combination of flat rounds and uphill climb which is quite challenging.

My sister and her biking buddy used to pedal around the town. Its becoming their favorite destination. I used to bike there at dawn wherein road widening and construction was on-going at that time. I usually stopped at the bridge  that separates the boundary of San Juan and San Gabriel, waiting for the sun to rise. I am reminded that I am near the town proper when I pass a milestone with 4KM to SG engraved on it. SG is not always in Singapore but also in San Gabriel.  With paved roads, one can easily reach the town of San Gabriel with minimal sweat at all.

Unlike its urban comparo, the rural scenery is a welcome treat which is so serene and very calming while traversing to the town. Once you reached the town proper, you are greeted by the smiles of the locals that emanate a positive vibe urging you to pursue and moved forward to your destination.

One can have a sidetrip of the famous Tangadan Falls which is a favorite tourist destination here during pre-Covid days. It is an hour trek from the jump-off point. At 2nd tier, Tangadan Falls.

San Gabriel, La Union is a four-hour trip from Metro Manila via the TPLEX. If you happen to visit Urbiztondo, San Juan which is a surfing destination, one can schedule a sidetrip to San Gabriel.

What are you waiting for?? Suit up! Pedal that bike and head on to SG.
